The new open-air terraced lawn of Sylvan Theater hosts up to 10,000 patrons and frames performances against the stunning backdrop of the Washington Monument. With a generous, fully accessible public plaza and roof terraces atop each obliquely oriented building level, the entirety of the site’s measured area is preserved as programmable open space. The team also recommended strategies to leverage joint use partnerships as a long-term cost management measure and showed how privately built local parks could enhance access to parks without obligating the City to build additional facilities.
