Some of our most popular parks regularly experience high visitor volumes, resulting in crowding of facilities, packed parking lots, and safety issues including parking along the highway. Non-BC residents with existing reservations should call the call centre to cancel for a full refund by June 30.
Since parks re-opened in June, British Columbians have been provided with priority access to camping this summer and BC Parks has worked to ensure that only BC residents can make reservations this year. All services and facilities that are opened will be operated and maintained in accordance with PHO guidelines. These parks do not fall within the jurisdiction of the BC Parks system. While we all look forward to future road trips and exploring new parks, we need to ensure small communities are not overwhelmed by people who are not following advice to avoid non-essential travel. On June 1, BC Parks will re-open most provincial campgrounds and back-country camping. BC Parks has heard concerns from the public, RCMP, First Nations, regional and municipal governments about the increase in visitors and is implementing full closures of certain parks throughout the province.
